Ken Agyapong Will Contest NPP 2028 Flagbearership Primaries – Brother Confirms
According to Ralph, a growing number of party members who previously backed Dr. Bawumia are now shifting their allegiance to Kennedy Agyapong. “As I speak, a lot of people have made a U-turn,” he said, indicating that Kennedy’s popularity within the party is on the rise as the next internal contest approaches. Ralph also reflected on his brother’s previous presidential bid, describing it as a challenging battle that pitted Kennedy against both internal and external opposition, including the party establishment and state machinery.
Former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent figure within Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a former presidential flagbearer aspirant, is gearing up for another run at the party’s flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections. This revelation was made by his brother, Ralph Agyapong, during an interview with Kings Jersey TV in the United States on March 15, 2025. Ralph confirmed that Kennedy is actively preparing to contest the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries, citing favorable shifts in the party’s internal dynamics as a key factor.
“I can confidently say that he will contest the presidency or the NPP primaries, likely next year, as there may be an early congress. He will definitely be on the ballot,” Ralph stated. He emphasized that the political landscape within the NPP has evolved significantly since the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections, with many members reevaluating their support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy’s main rival in the previous primaries.

Ralph further hinted that the NPP might convene an early congress to select its flagbearer, a move that could accelerate Kennedy’s return to the presidential race. He also criticized the party’s campaign strategy during the 2024 elections, attributing the NPP’s loss to ineffective tactics and poor decision-making. Ralph argued that the party’s approach failed to resonate with voters, underscoring the need for new leadership to revitalize the NPP’s prospects for 2028.
“The strategy employed in 2024 did not help the party secure victory,” he remarked, stressing the importance of selecting a dynamic and relatable candidate to lead the party forward. Ralph’s comments suggest that Kennedy Agyapong is positioning himself as the candidate best suited to unite the party and appeal to a broader electorate.
