
The Deputy Minister for Local Government, who also serves as the MP for La Dadekotopon Municipality, has faced a setback. Her candidate, Alfredos Nii Anyetei, failed to secure the endorsement of Assembly Members at the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly, garnering only 5 votes out of the required threshold. It is clear that but for Government Appointees , the nominee would have received (0).
The Assembly members cited several reasons for their decision, including;
The MP’s perceived arrogance. Issues with the nominee’s sponsor, Hon. Namoale, a former MP.
The Concerns about the nominee’s supporters, including the Constituency Secretary and Organizer who have all not postured well in ensuring unity.
It has been speculated that the assembly members were to be taken care of with an amount of 50,000 gh each but was reduced to 13,000 gh which infuriated the assembly members.
The bipartisan Assembly caucus, comprising majority NDC members, expressed willingness to work with a candidate who understands the Assembly’s workings. They have called on the Chairman of the Party, the Chief of Staff, and His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to consider Hon. Aaron Akron or another suitable candidate.
