Soldier On Anti-Galamsey Duty Arrested For Allegedly Raping Young Lady In The Bush

A soldier on Anti-Galamsey duty with service number 202843 AB1 has been arrested by the Wassa Akropong District Police for the alleged rape of an 18-year-old young lady at Yaw Gyimakrom near Hemang in the Western Region.

According to the Police, who confirmed the incident to online portal, MYNEWSGH, the victim and her boyfriend, Bismark Antwi were returning home from a galamsey site when the unfortunate incident occured.

The Police statement indicates that while the victim and her boyfriend were returning from the galamsey site, they met two soldiers who asked that they direct them to a site where they had heard an excavator working.

While the victim directed the soldiers, another group of soldiers were said to have arrived and arrested her boyfriend.

According to the Police, one of the soldiers then lured her into the bush and forcibly had sex with her and escaped.

The Commander of Detachment Team One, Sergeant Peter Owusu Darkwa upon hearing of the matter, ordered an identification parade of all his men for the victim to identify her villain.

Sergeant Owusu Darkwa personally surrendered his man, suspect AB1 Abdul-Latif to the Wassa Akropong Police where he was arrested, cautioned and detained and later released on Police inquiry bail to his Detachment commander.
