In a massive traditional ceremony held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Monday, December 18, 2023, Justice Emmanuel Ankamah, a 45-year-old Justice of the Court of Appeal, officially took the oath of allegiance to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, marking his assumption of the esteemed position of Omanhene of the Sampa Traditional Area in the Bono region.

Under the stool name Nana Samgba Gyafla II, Justice Ankamah has made history by concurrently holding the paramount chief position and maintaining his role as a high-ranking member of the judiciary and public service. The installation ceremony, captured in a video shared by Manhyia Palace Television on YouTube, was attended by a distinguished delegation of Sampa kingmakers.

Prominent figures present at the ceremony included Nana Siedjo Patazin II, Mansihene; Nana Kwadwo Magsa, Adontenhene; Nana Yeboah Asiamah, Tufuhene; Nana Woli Kofi Twentwan II, Kyidomhene; Nana Sei Kofi Ajaro, Kontihene, among others.

The ceremony, steeped in tradition and cultural significance, showcased the rich heritage of the Sampa Traditional Area as Justice Ankamah assumed his new role. The Asanteman Traditional Council, represented at the event, commended Nana Gyafla II and offered words of encouragement, urging him to dedicate himself to the welfare and progress of his people.

Nana Gyafla II’s dual role as a judicial luminary and traditional leader is a testament to his capability and the acknowledgment of his exemplary service. His appointment adds a unique dimension to the landscape of traditional leadership, blending legal expertise with cultural stewardship.

The oath swearing ceremony was made even more colorful with the attendance of a host of Appeal Court Justices who attended to show solidarity to their colleague who has now ascended the Sampa Paramount stool.
