NPP Postpones Disciplinary Hearing For Former MP Sarah Adwoa Safo After Public Backlash

Adwoa Safo was referred to the Disciplinary Committee on March 20, 2025, following her appearance on Joy News’ Pulse Show, where she reportedly made comments deemed contrary to the party’s guidelines. In a statement, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong emphasized that her remarks disregarded the party’s directive and breached Article 3(5) of the NPP Constitution, which mandates members to uphold the party’s reputation.

The Opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rescheduled the disciplinary hearing for former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, which was initially set for Monday, April 7, 2025.

In a letter dated April 6, 2025, the NPP’s Disciplinary Committee cited “emerging scheduling adjustments and internal considerations” as the reason for the postponement. The Committee assured that a new date would be communicated promptly to the former MP.

The hearing stems from allegations that Adwoa Safo violated a party directive prohibiting members from making public statements that could foster disaffection within the NPP. The directive, issued earlier, aimed to maintain unity and discipline ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The Committee expressed appreciation for her cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to fairness and due process. The postponement allows for further review before proceeding with the hearing.

The postponement follows a wide backlash on social media from party supporters who mostly alleged that the former MP is being unfairly targeted since many party officials including the General Secretary had earlier engaged in the same behavior without any repercussions.

Adwoa Safo, a former Deputy Majority Leader and Minister of State, has yet to publicly comment on the latest developments. The NPP’s decision underscores its efforts to enforce discipline while navigating internal disputes ahead of future electoral contests.
