Former Information Minister, John Tia has disclosed that people of the North mainly moved to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) because of how the New Patriotic Party (NPP) denigrated them in 1992.

Speaking in an interview on Bolgatanga-based Dreamz Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com, he noted that the leader of the NPP in the 1992 election, Prof. Albert Adu Boahen called on the people of the North to bring their strength on board to compliment the brains of the people of the South to steer the affairs of the nation.

This according to him did not go down well with the Northerners.

He further noted how the same Prof Adu Boahen stated in Walewale that people of the North did not need electricity for anything but rather kerosene.

“I still remember at Plaza (now Jubilee Park), Prof. Adu Boahen came, what did he say? He said we in the North should add our strength to them, Southerners who have the brains so that they would kick out this man (Former President Rawlings). So we were just noted for our strength, not our brains, not our sense. So if you talk like that, what have you done? Where are you pushing us?” he was quoted by mynewsgh.
