A Ghanaian-born US-based Professor of Leadership and Management at Viterbo University, United States of America; Greed, and corruption pushed Ghana to IMF – Opoku-Antwi has accused the International Monetary Fund of being part of Ghana’s economic woes.
Prof. Opoku-Antwi, further bemoaned the number of years Ghana has gone for support from the IMF as a sovereign state.
Speaking with Kofi Oppong Asamoah on the Class Morning Show on a myriad of issues, on Class 91.3FM Thursday, 7 July 2022, Prof. Opoku-Antwi insisted that greed, corruption, propaganda, and inappropriate figures primarily are the cause of the country’s economic woes.
He said “It is very interesting for a country of 65 years to have gone to the IMF 17 times.
That means on average every four (4) years that we do election, we are one way or the other going to the IMF for financial rescue and that has come from many angles, greed, corruption, propaganda, and inappropriate figures and we keep going back to them so that they structure our system for us.”
“The most painful thing ever in our culture is to sit for someone to think for you and that is exactly what we have been doing. We just talk and there is no action and leadership is about execution; we are not executing anything and because of that, our whole system has become a scam and IMF has been part of our scam,” he bemoaned.
Touching on leadership in Ghana at the back of whether Ghana should go to the IMF or not, Prof. Opoku-Antwi described as unfortunate how bad leadership and corruption has engulfed Ghana despite all the rich resources.
“We do not have the right kind of leadership; we have corrupt people who do not tell the truth. If you look at the resources that we have, how much are we earning? he asked.
“Every natural resource that is being drilled and taken away, we are being screwed, even in international trade.”
