CSO’s Weren’t All Knowing When NPP Was In Opposition – IMANI Chides Elizabeth Ohene

Published

on

President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has taken on veteran journalist Elizabeth Ohene after she criticized Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) describing them as “All-knowing neutrals,” amidst the Agyapa Royalties brouhaha.

In a post on Twitter, Franklin Cudjoe took Mrs Ohene who is also a politician back on a trip through memory lane, when she was a speaker on an anti-corruption program organised by IMANI Africa.

In what suggested to be hypocritical of Mrs Ohene, Franklin Cudjoe quizzed why she never found the IMANI as being all knowing when she was using their platforms to propagate her views when the New Patriotic Party was in opposition.

Audio: Osei Kyei Is The Majority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu Is The Minority; Stop Confusing The Public – Speaker Warns MPs

Published

on

The Speaker of Parliament Alban S.K. Bagbin has urged Members of the Eighth Parliament to desist from confusing the public over the leadership of the two groups in the house.

Speaking in Parliament today, Right Honourable Bagbin stated that Osei-Kyei-Mensah Bonsu was the Majority Leader and Haruna Iddrisu was the Minority Leader.

He said: “…The Standing Orders further provide that the Majority Group will be lead by a leader and that leader is referred to as Majority Leader and Order 160 and Order 168 demands that the Business Committee and the House Committee be chaired by the Majority Leader, that is the standing orders we have now and I am guided by that, I am bounded by it…

“So please, don’t keep confusing the public. So the Honourable Osei-Kyei-Mensah Bonsu is the Majority Leader, the Honourable Haruna Iddrisu is the Minority Leader”.

The Speaker’s latest declaration on the composition of the House comes a week after he declared that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in Parliament together with the independent Member of Parliament for Fomena, Andrew Asiamah Amoako constitute the Majority Group in Parliament.

That declaration followed an official letter from Mr Asiamah Amoako to the Speaker in which he stated that he will do business with the NPP caucus in Parliament led by Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

Exactly 55 years ago on January 22, 1996, Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah inaugurated the Akosombo Dam across the Volta River.

The Akosombo dam created a hydroelectric power plant, which fuelled an aluminium smelter and provided electricity to urban centers and adjacent countries like Togo and Benin.

However, the main purpose of the dam was to provide electricity solely for the aluminium industry. It is known to be “the largest single investment in the economic development plans of Ghana”
