Ato Forson Trial: Nana B Fingers Supreme Court Judge In Secret Recording

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has leveled serious accusations against the National Democratic Congress (NDC), alleging the manipulation of a tape involving a conversation between Supreme Court Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi, Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, and Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing ambulance case.

This development follows claims made by Richard Jakpa in open court, suggesting that Attorney General Godfred Dame approached him multiple times, seeking his assistance to implicate the first accused, Dr. Casiel Ato Forson. Dr. Forson, who is a former Deputy Finance Minister and the current Minority Leader, is facing charges related to the procurement of faulty ambulances for Ghana.

Dismissing Jakpa’s allegations, the Attorney General asserted that Richard Jakpa had, in fact, sent several letters requesting a plea bargaining deal, aiming for the state to drop all charges against the accused. The AG emphasized that this proposal has not yet been accepted.

In a Facebook post on Monday, May 27, Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the NPP, also known as Nana B, clarified that the AG attended the meeting at the request of Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi, which took place at the Justice’s residence. Nana B insisted that a full recording of the meeting would confirm that the AG never solicited Richard Jakpa to skew his testimony.

“We are reliably informed that the NDC is attempting to maliciously ‘doctor’ the tape to exclude portions of the conversation, particularly the voice of the Supreme Court Justice, whose invitation the AG honored out of courtesy. The full-length recording will reveal that the AG never requested Richard Jakpa to manipulate his testimony as claimed by the NDC,” Nana B stated.

Nana B further emphasized, “No amount of scheming by the NDC and its affiliates will exonerate any person who participated in misrepresenting ordinary vans as ambulances to the Ghanaian populace.”

The NDC has announced its intention to disclose the full details of Jakpa’s claims at a press conference scheduled for today, Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi, who invited the AG to the meeting, was Godfred Dame’s senior at Akufo-Addo chambers, Adabraka, highlighting a professional connection between the two.

The controversy surrounding this tape and the subsequent allegations continue to add layers of complexity to the already high-profile ambulance case, drawing significant public and media attention. As both parties prepare to reveal more information, the situation remains a focal point of political and judicial discourse in Ghana.
