Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah has cautioned Ghanaian firms that refusing to accept Mobile Money payment is illegal.

This comes after public outcry that some establishments are refusing to accept Mobile Money payments for fear of being taxed when the money is withdrawn.

Adakabre Frimpong Manso, who had a similar experience trying to buy petrol in Ejisu via Mobile Money transaction, protested to the Minister, who also happens to be the area’s MP.

In response to the complaint, John Kumah stated that the government expected this during the early stages of the E-Levy implementation.

He said that because this is a new item, the public should be dubious at first, but that with time, they will gain a better understanding of the E-levy.

The Deputy Finance Minister, on the other hand, reminded these firms that the sooner they adopt the E-levy, the better, because refusing to sell a product or service to someone only because they want to pay with Mobile Money is illegal.
