Popular Social Media personality, Twene Jonas has caused divided opinions on social media after he took on the Overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II for what he describes as not doing more to stop galamsey which is destroying Ghana’s water bodies.

Last week, the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II made the headlines after he revealed extempore the efforts made by the Ashanti Regional Minister and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources to attempt to prevent him from making comments that might presumably cast government in a bad light.

The Asantehene, who was delivering the keynote address at the Regional Consultative Dialogue on Small Scale Mining indirectly accused the government of pretending to fight the menace while not doing much.

The Asantehene’s comments were welcomed by many Ghanaians who were glad that the respected monarch had added his voice to the campaign.

However, US-based Ghanaian social media personality, Twene Jonas believes that despite the fact that the Asantehene’s comments were in the right direction, he believes the monarch can still do more.

According to Jonas, the Asantehene should be sacking his Chiefs who are releasing land to miners to engage in their activities, and should also be putting more pressure on government considering his influence.

However, many social media users are divided over Jonas’ latest rants.

While many believe his rants are in the right direction, many others also believe that this time he went too far by addressing his rants at the Asante Monarch.
