Roads Minister Should Be Held Accountable For Causing Financial Loss To The State – UGBS Lecturer

Prof. Lord Mensah, an Associate Professor in the Department of Finance at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), is calling for the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, to resign over what he characterizes as a hasty suspension of road tolls.

Prof. Lord Mensah believes that the minister’s decree stopping road toll collection last year resulted in financial loss for the state, which should not go unpunished.

In an interview with ABC News, the finance professor highlighted that the minister must either be punished and convicted in court or surcharged because the country has lost revenue as a result of his conduct.

The lecturer is baffled as to why the E-levy, which is a new government policy that was supposed to replace the road toll, has not been approved by parliament, but the minister is rushing to suspend the tolls that were already bringing in money for the state.

As a result, he insisted that the minister be held accountable for his conduct.

“As for the road toll, I’ve already stated that whoever ordered its suspension caused the state to lose money. That person will have to pay a surcharge or be charged. The person’s salary must be utilized to compensate the country for the revenue lost due to the suspension of road tolls. Professor Lord Mensah stated, “The appropriation bill has not been passed, but you have given instructions for the suspension of road tolls.”
