Nurse Narrates How Sawla NHIA Boss Sexually Assaulted Her In The Consulting Room

A nurse by name Doreen Smith has narrated how the District Director for the National Insurance Authority (NHIA)   Mahama Sakara of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District sexually assaulted her in the consulting room of the CHPS Compound where she worked.

This was after she recorded the NHIA boss who apparently had been sexually harassing her for sometime now.

However, she refuted claims of inviting Mahama Sakara to her house intentionally to record him as being speculated.

Doreen said, “When he(Mahama) was coming, I(Doreen) never knew. He said he called someone, and the person told him I was at the facility. Even when he was coming, my colleague I was working with, also saw him. But he(Dorene’s collegue) was going to Wa to do his voters ID card.”

She further went on to reveal that, the Director pretentiously came to the CHPS Compound with the intent of coming to monitor  work affairs but then came to sexually harass her.

The abused nurse said that, that wasn’t the first time for her to be molested by the NHIA boss, it was actually the second time and she didn’t want it to happen the third time hence her recording him.

She alleged that, though Mr. Mahama was not able to have sex with her, he was able to finger her in the act and that, there had been pressure from so-called friends of the Director to drop the charges leveled against him but she didn’t yield to it as it was evident Mr. Mahama had not repented from his actions.

This was what she said about the accused, “The following day, the man (NHIS boss) even called me and asked, didn’t I know that I could have killed him? and I asked him, Was I killing you? And he said in the Twi dialect, Kumi Preko. So it looks like, he has not even regretted what he did to me.”

She said the decision to report the matter to the authorities was because she was afraid for her life.

“I first informed the community assemblyman because I’m working with a community and I can’t bypass them. So that very day, I even went to the Assemblyman and played the audio to him. It was the Assemblyman and my security man who alerted the chief.

So the chief came and I told him all that happened. So they were even pleading and they told me that I should rest assured they will report the matter to the NHIS boss’s family. I told them I can’t live there anymore because my mind cannot be stable,” she narrated.

Doreen said, because of the incident, she had relocated for fear of her life and peace of mind.
Meanwhile, the NHIA Director at the center of the scandal, Mr. Mahama Sakara has been asked to step down by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) as the police investigate into the matter.
