Those whose SIM cards have been blocked as a result of not having Ghana Cards can send an email or WhatsApp to have their services restored if they have genuine reasons, 3news.com has gathered.

The Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, on Thursday, June 8 told Parliament that those with genuine concerns can contact the National Communications Authority (NCA) and show evidence of attempts to register for their Ghana Cards to have their SIMs reactivated.

“In recognition of the fact that not everyone has a Ghana Card, individuals who have not registered their SIMs have been asked to submit evidence of having applied for their Ghana Card to the NCA, and they will be exempted from the exercise,”the Ablekuma West Member of Parliament (MP) said.

Giving further explanation to this, a Deputy Director at NCA, Kwame Gyan, says affected customers in this category can send an email via [email protected] to his outfit for a resolution.

Speaking on TV3‘s Midday Live on Friday, June 9, he disclosed that even mobile network operators (MNOs) in some instances have provided WhatsApp numbers that customers can channel their complaints to.

The Deputy Director in charge of Consumer and Corporate Affairs said their eight offices across the country will also be open to receive such complaints.

Mr Gyan assured that if the necessary pieces of evidence are received by the Authority, the SIMs can be restored within a day or two, in some cases.

He commended efforts by MNOs to get SIMs reactivated as some of mounted special customer care desks to handle such complaints.

He said the MNOs in some instances send the complaints to NCA to have their customers’ SIMs restored.

About 9 million SIM cards are reported to have been deactivated after Wednesday, May 31 following government’s final deadline on SIM Card re-registration.
