The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has been awarded, Basketball Partner (Corporate) by Rite Sports Limited at the Basketball Honors 2022.

A citation presented to NLA reads, “Consistency is key to success and you have demonstrated consistent support by constructing a basketball court for the Adentan community, managed by Rite Sports.  You are part of the success stories we have written and to show our little appreciation to your grand institution, we give you this award”.

In December 2011, NLA handed over a newly built basketball court, the Adentan Basketball Court to Rite Sports Limited to manage.  It was to serve as a training ground for players in and around the Adentan community and whip up interest in the game among the youth.

NLA has through its Good Causes Foundation, which is its charity arm, assisted many sporting clubs and institutions in various sporting disciplines.  The objective of the Foundation is to develop, implement and maintain a structure and Action Plan based on four main pillars- Education, Health, Youth and Sports Development and Culture.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Director-General of NLA, Madam Anna Horma Miezah said the gesture is a show of NLA’s commitment to Youth and Sports Development and to basketball as a sport, a testament of NLA’s slogan, Development through Games.

“The Youth and Sports Development Pillar focuses on capacity building for the youth and supports sporting activities with special focus on the development of lesser-known sports.  Young people who own SMEs and have the technical and skill support to be innovative are also assisted while special attention is given to persons with disability and special needs who may want to go into entrepreneurship”.

Madam Anna Miezah commended the Chief Executive Officer of Rite Sports Limited, Mr. Yaw Sakyi Afari and his team for the astounding work done with the Basketball sport in the last fifteen years.  She also applauded the student awardees for their accomplishments and urged them not to rest on their oars, as this is only the beginning to attain greater heights.

“In a country where football is the dominant sport, it is refreshing to notice the impact basketball has made especially amongst high school and tertiary students, and how well you have sustained the game over the years”.

The Chief Executive Officer of Rite Sports Limited, Mr. Yaw Sakyi thanked NLA and other key partners who have supported Rite Sports Limited over the years and urged more organizations to come on board.

The Basket Ball Honors is an award scheme that recognizes excellence among institutions, High School and University Students as well as coaches and managers who have made remarkable contributions to the development of basketball in Ghana.
