National Security Stop Assemblies of God Emergency General Council Meeting Over COVID-19 Fears

Security operatives have stopped a national emergency general council meeting of the Assemblies of God Church taking place in Tamale, the capital city of the Northern Region.

The meeting, organised by the national leadership of the church is taking place in the sanctuary of Wind and Fire Chapel at King David, a suburb of Tamale with over 3,500 pastors in attendance at this venue designed to take just about 800 people.

According to Asaase news, the meeting is considered to be a super spreader event as many of the participants are said to have tested positive for COVID-19 or have been in close contact with persons who have tested positive.

Another source at the meeting grounds indicates that the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God denomination, Rev. Professor Frimpong Manso, at whose behest the emergency meeting was convened, has himself, tested positive for COVID-19, and is on admission at the Tamale Teaching hospital receiving treatment.

Sources within the Assemblies of God church, have told Asaase News that ahead of the emergency meeting, they questioned the rational behind the rushed meeting during this period when COVID-19 cases are skyrocketing in the country.

Other Assemblies of God pastors further intimated that all efforts to get the leaders to call-off the meeting, were ignored as some national leaders were bent on holding the conference to enable the passage of some resolutions for their self-serving interests, ahead of the denominations national elections of church leaders slated in August 2022.
