It Is Easier To Get COVID-19 In Church Than In Trotros And Taxis – Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

Government, through the minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has sought to clarify what informed its decision to ease the restrictions imposed on public Transport and Churches.

President Akufo-Addo in his address to the Nation last night, gave public transport operatives the green light to load at full capacity, while still maintaining a leash around the activities of churches, even though the duration of service was revised to 2 hours.

Clarifying government’s directive for commercial vehicles to operate at full capacity while churches operate minimally, the minister said the probability of contracting COVID-19 is higher in churches than in commercial vehicles.

Speaking to Bernard Avle on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM, an Accra-based English-speaking radio station, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah said the new directive was informed by experts’ advice.

“The advice that has come from the health persons is that the kind of risk levels because of the shouting and the very exuberant activities is higher than it is in the transport systems if indeed everybody is just wearing a mask and staying put and is observing all of the other protocols. There’s a difference between the two.” The minister said.

Ghanaians are still divided over the latest directives from the government with many wondering why they are to board a vehicle with no social distancing to attend church only to be forced to observe what they were made to ignore in the public transport.
