I Wish IGP Could Be Challenged In Court For Accepting Resignation of Wife of Mfantseman MP – Ex Police Commander

A former Commander of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Naa Hamza Yakubu has noted that the Inspect General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh clearly breached the Police Act by granting the resignation of Mrs Ophelia Hayford, wife of murdered Mfantseman MP, Ekow Hayford.

Mrs Ophelia Hayford, a police officer, tendered in her resignation letter to the IGP in order to succeed her late husband as Member of Parliament for the Mfantseman area.

However, various organisations and individuals have expressed concerns over the legitimacy on which the IGP accepted her resignation.

Speaking to 3FM, Supt Yakubu noted that the situation is quite dicey because it has to do with politics.

“It is a stated fact that Police officers as public servants are barred from doing active politics, so what is that will compel a police officer to, on the spur of the moment, say I am resigning to go and do politics and that is a reasonable excuse enough to grant the go-ahead. For me, the IGP has clearly breached the regulation and I wish we are in a position to go and challenge it in a court of law,” he noted.
