Free Primary HealthCare To Supplement NHIS — Mahama Clarifies

Published

on

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former president, John Dramani Mahama has added flesh to the Free Primary Healthcare Delivery.

In his explanation, he said; the free primary health care for all Ghanaians would be under a special arrangement to be managed by the National Health Insurance Authority.

“Let me point out that this programme and plan we are bringing is going to be implemented and supervised by the NHIS But it is going to be a program for free primary healthcare so that at the level of the CHPS compound, polyclinics and health centres all Ghanaians will have access to free healthcare whether they possess a national health insurance card or not.”

He further added that, our current health insurance system makes it difficult to access quality health care hence the need to implement a new programme to supplement the National Health Insurance Scheme.

“It is the aim of all countries to attain what we call universal healthcare. Unfortunately, our National Health Insurance Scheme makes it difficult for us to obtain this objective because the payment of premiums at the lower rank of the health delivery system makes it difficult for everybody to be able to access quality healthcare. So we are breaking a new program to supplement the NHIS.”

He said this on his 4-day tour of the Upper West Region while engaging chiefs in Wa.

NDC Grievances Still Not Addressed After IPAC Meeting

Published

on

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have expressed dissatisfaction over failure of the Electoral Commission to address their concerns at today’s Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting.

Speaking to the Press after the meeting, representative of the NDC, Osei Kwame Griffiths noted that the meeting could have been more successful if the EC had been receptive of their concerns.

“I think it was a meeting that was called perhaps after we had raised certain issues within the public domain that even prior to some of the things that are happening, IPAC was not briefed,” he said.

“So, they quickly had to put this together but it still did not answer the very common-sensical questions that we had. So, in my view, the meeting could have achieved much more had they been more receptive to some of the questions that we raised,” he added.

The New Patriotic Party on the other hand expressed satisfactory with the assurances given by the EC concern anomalies with the voters’ register.

“That is the reason why we have the exhibition of the provisional register to correct any anomalies that might have erupted during the generation of the data,” said the party’s Campaign Manager, Peter Mac Manu, who represented the NPP at the meeting.

The youth of Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency have disclosed plans to go on a demonstration against Member of Parliament of the area, George Mireku Duker for bringing disgrace upon the constituency by fighting openly in public.

I Regret Beating Bissue, I’m So Sorry – Mireku Duker Begs Ghanaians

Published

Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker has expressed regrets over a fight between him and New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Regional Secretary for Western Region, Charles Bissue.

According to him, although he acted in self defense against a fuming Bissue, he acknowledged that it was not befitting of him as an MP to engage in violence.

Mireku Duker had his hand bitten by Charles Bissue

“My supporters and the party people know I’m not violent. I have never fought before but I couldn’t sit there and watch someone beat me. The laws of the country allow us to defend ourselves under certain conditions.

Charles Bissue had a swollen face and red eye as a result of heavy punches from Mireku Duker

“I did not insult him and even if I did, he wouldn’t have heard from where I sat. He threw the first punch saying that I will beat you. We got angry and fought but I regret it. I want to say sorry to everyone. It hurts me that this happened. I’m so sorry. I never thought Bissue would do that but I really regret it,” he said.
