First Deputy Speaker Urges MP’s To Wear Ghana Jersey To Parliament On Friday

Parliament has thrown its weight behind the Black Stars ahead of their first leg World Cup qualifier game against Nigeria on Friday, March 25.

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu has therefore asked all Members of Parliament to wear Black Stars-branded jerseys to the House on Friday as a sign of support to the national team in their world cup qualifier against Nigeria.

The Black Stars has been severely criticised by Ghanaians following their abysmal performance in the 2021 African Cup of Nations tournament which led to the sacking of the former Black Stars Head Coach, Milovan Rajevac.

JoyNews’ Parliamentary Correspondent, Kwesi Parker-Wilson disclosed this on The Pulse on Wednesday.

He said the House also charged Ex-Black Stars players and Ghanaians to desist from coming out with demoralising comments against the team and rather show support and encouragement.

The Black Stars faced the brunt of many Ghanaians including Ningo-Prampram MP, Sam George and Dancehall Artiste, Shatta Wale following their first-round exit in the 2021 African Cup of Nations.

Last week, the Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin said the Parliamentary Committee tasked to probe the Black Stars’ abysmal performance in the 2021 African Cup of Nations, has completed its work.

Speaking in Parliament on Friday, Mr. Afenyo-Markin, however, noted that the Committee has decided to hold on to its report and release it after the game with Nigeria.

“Mr. Speaker, I’m reliably informed that the work given to them is done. Except that Mr. Speaker, there is a Ghana-Nigeria match. A very crucial match and the Committee in its wisdom is of the view that, that match should be played in peace and all matters be discussed later.”
