EC And NIA Are The Causes Of Registration Irregularities – NPP Secretary

Greater Accra Regional Secretary for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nii Odarlai Parker has blamed officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) for the many irregularities troubling the ongoing voter registration exercise.

According to Nii Odarlai, the registration has faced challenges at various centers due to the commission’s employment of “inept and untrustworthy” officials to conduct the exercise.

Speaking on Onua FM on Tuesday, August 4, the regional NPP executive claimed that most electoral officers engaged by the EC to conduct the ongoing registration exercise are politicians who are there to do the bidding of their respective parties.

He alleged that most EC officials take money from political parties in getting ineligible applicants registered.

The NPP regional secretary also took a swipe at the National Identification Authority (NIA) for not being apt in completing its registration, fingering the authority’s boss, Prof. Ken Attafuah for his abysmal performance thus far while stating that the EC could have used the NIA registration data for the new voter register if the exercise had been well conducted.

He told host Anokyewaaba Adwoa Serwaa that until this generation becomes patriotic, Ghana would continue to be underdeveloped and have challenges in every election year.
