Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Host Flees For His Life As NDC Supporters Disrupt Show At Nankese

A political discussion organized by Asempa FM in Nankese, a suburb of Suhum in the Eastern Region, descended into chaos when supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) violently disrupted the event, leaving several people injured.

The program, titled “Asempa FM – Ekosin Constituency Watch,” was intended to promote constructive dialogue between parliamentary candidates ahead of the upcoming elections. However, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Suhum, Prince Kwadjo Tabiri, who is from the Nankese community, and his team boycotted the event, citing their involvement in a similar program organized by TV3, a Media General outlet.

NDC Communications Officer Dove Maxwell had issued a statement earlier on Friday, informing the public that the party’s candidate would not participate in the afternoon show.

The disruption occurred after New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate Frank Asiedu Bekoe presented his vision for the development of Suhum. He was supported by the Municipal Chief Executive, Margaret Darko Darkwa, who highlighted the government’s achievements in the municipality.

During the question-and-answer session, some NDC supporters arrived at the venue, located at the forecourt of the Nankese Police Station, and attempted to ask questions. However, they were denied the opportunity due to the absence of their leadership, leading to a violent outburst.

The event quickly turned chaotic, forcing host Osei Bonsu and the Asempa FM team to flee for safety, resulting in the abrupt end of the show. The NPP condemned the actions of the NDC supporters, calling the behavior “uncivilized” and urging the party to reflect on its commitment to peaceful democracy. The incident has raised concerns about the NDC’s willingness to accept the outcome of the upcoming elections.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as disorderly and intimidating, with NDC supporters allegedly attacking attendees and causing damage to equipment.

Below is the NPP press release condemning the incident:

Suhum NPP Condemns Nankese Violence

The recent community watch organized by Asempa FM in Suhum-Nankese has made it clear that the NDC parliamentary candidate lacks a clear vision for the constituency’s development. This absence of a compelling message suggests the NDC has already accepted defeat in the upcoming elections.

Today’s Community Watch program was meant to foster constructive dialogue and engagement. Regrettably, NDC members boycotted the event, leading to its destruction and injuries.

This incident highlights the NDC’s disregard for democratic values and undermines Ghana’s progress.

We strongly condemn this uncivilized behaviour and urge the NDC to reflect on its actions.

In stark contrast, Frank Asiedu Bekoe demonstrated exceptional leadership during the program, showcasing the NPP’s dedication to inclusive development.

We commend his exemplary conduct and vision for Suhum’s future.

Signed,
Augustine Odei
Financial Secretary, NPP Suhum
Ag. Director of Communications, NPP Suhum
