Alan’s Team Pooh-poohs Bawumia’s Lead In New Poll

The campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Alan Kyerematen, has rubbished the latest survey that puts Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia in a pole position for the flagbearer slot of the party.

Bawumia emerged as the most preferred candidate for the NPP) flagbearer position in a latest research jointly conducted by Outcomes International Ghana and Centre for Sustainable African Development Initiatives (C-SADI) UK.

The research conducted in all 16 regions of Ghana used an estimated 197,000 NPP polling station executives (PSEs) as the target population.

“The most preferred candidate for the NPP’s flagbearer position among PSEs is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia leading in all 16 regions as shown in figure 1 (below). The closest contenders to Dr Bawumia are Alan Kyerematen and Kennedy Agyapong respectively. It is worth noting that some PSEs (12.3%) indicated they have not yet decided on whom to vote for, but that does not significantly change the outcome,” the researchers said in their final report.

Reacting to the development, the spokesperson for Kyerematen’s campaign team Gabby Kyere Jnr, said the survey does not reflect the situation on the ground.

“Any die hard NPP person knows the internal machination against some of us,” he said. “For instance, I have been denied certain opportunities … so if I were a delegate, to prevent such occurrences, I will hide my identity and preferences.”

“That is exactly what is happening, the so-called delegates that they interviewed, most of them are safe guarding their daily bread, I know some MPs who have been openly chastised and threatened for openly declaring their support for Alan Kyerematen.

“And I tell you, we have constantly been engaging the delegates, those who matter and trust me there is no way that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will win this primaries,” Kyere Jnr said.
