The Director of Elections and Research for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Evans Nimako has negated claims by one of the contestants for the position of flagbearer on the ticket of the party that, he (Mr. Alan Kyerematen) had paid for the nomination forms for the party’s election of polling station executives.

According to Mr. Nimako, the General Secretary of the party, John Boadu, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the party has not given him any information to that effect.

He said Mr. Boadu is currently on a tour of the Ashanti and Bono Regions as part of the measures for the National Executives Committee to monitor the exercise across the country.

He maintained that as Director of Elections, he had not been informed to the effect that the forms have been paid for by Mr. Kyerematen, who is the Minister of Trade and Industry.

“I have not received any information to that effect as a national officer,” he stated.

He hoped that the claims as contained in some traditional media are a result of fake news that has taken center stage on social media spaces in recent times.

The Director of Elections and Research was reacting to some statements in the media to the effect that Mr. Kyeremanten had paid for the forms for all aspirants for polling station executive positions across the country.

Mr. Nimako was also speaking on the confusion that characterized the purchase of the nomination forms over the weekend at Accra-based Neat FM assured the rank and file of the party that there is no shortage of the forms.

He added that rules for this year’s internal elections are different from the last internal elections, hence, the decision to open nominations for three days.

He noted that the forms have been handed over to the regional Election Committee to be distributed to all 38,622 polling stations in all 275 Constituencies.

He added that it is the responsibility of the committee to ensure the forms are made available to all aspirants.

The regional Elections Committee has been mandated to handle the affairs at that level.

He gave the assurance that the National Executive Committee is monitoring the process in the situation room.
