The Metropolitan Chief Executive, MCE, nominee for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, (AMA) Elizabeth Kwatsoe Sackey, has been finally confirmed by Assembly members to become the first female AMA Mayor.

Mrs Sackey had a yes vote from 33 assembly members of the AMA.

Her confirmation was done today, Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the AMA office.

The former Okaikwei North MP’s nomination was initially met with a lot of opposition from some youth in Odododiodoo, who went on the rampage on Saturday, 18 September 2021 amidst the burning of tyres and destruction of property.

However, the outgoing mayor, Mr Mohammed Adjei Sowah, condemned the disturbances and even offered his support to his successor.

Elizabeth Sackey was a former MP for Okaikwei North on the ticket of the NPP. She hails from Asere-Accra in the Greater Accra Region and was born on May 6, 1958.

She holds a Certificate in Marketing, which she obtained in 2003.
