Revealed: Why President Kuffuor Sacked Kennedy Agyapong From His House

Last Tuesday on Metro TV’s “Good Evening Ghana” with Paul Adom Otchere, maverick lawmaker for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong made a startling revelation about how his once-perfect relationship with former President Kuffuor unexplainably turned sour.

According to the lawmaker, he was convinced that some elements in their party who were close to the former president, intentionally peddled lies against him to the former President, a man whom he considered no less than a father to the extent that the ‘Gentle Giant’ even drove him away from his house without giving him an opportunity to explain things.

However, on his show yesterday evening, Paul Adom Otchere claimed that he had received a call from some elements very close to former President Kuffuor, who confirmed that indeed the once enviable relationship between the lawmaker and the former president had hit the rocks.

According to Adom Otchere’s sources, the real reason that informed the former President’s decision to sack the Assin Central MP from his house, happened in 2007 while he was wrapping up his tenure as President.

Facts of the Issue

According to the sources, Ken Agyapong picked up information in 2007 that one of the former President’s sons was in contention with a businessman over a property, and he (Kuffuor’s son) had visited the premises of the said property with security personnel to cause mayhem.

As a man who loved President Kuffuor deeply, and who was also concerned that the President’s legacy might be tainted, he phoned the President to call his son to order. President Kuffuor thanked him and proceeded home to check if his son was around, only to realize that his son was actually home and had not gone anywhere to do anything as was suggested by Ken Agyapong.

Ken Agyapong on his part, claims he went to see the said businessman and settled the matter by even paying him off from his own pocket, however President Kuffuor had also mistakenly formed the perception that Ken had tried to set him against his own son, leading to a deterioration in their once-enviable relationship.

When Adom Otchere confronted Ken Agyapong with the new facts, the maverick lawmaker said that he remembers that incident clearly. According to him, until Paul confronted him with the information, he never knew that was what caused the break in relations with the former President.
