In a significant move, Professor Ransford Gyampo, a renowned Political Science scholar at the University of Ghana, has been named the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers Authority. The appointment was made by President John Dramani Mahama, marking a transition in leadership at the Authority. Prof. Gyampo succeeds Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who was appointed by the previous Akufo-Addo administration in December 2024.

Born on March 31, 1977, in Accra, Prof. Ransford Edward Van Gyampo has built an impressive career spanning academia, governance, and public policy. He is a Professor of Political Science and the Founding Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana, where he has accumulated over two decades of teaching and research experience. Prof. Gyampo holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghana and has pursued advanced studies at Tufts University in Boston, USA.

His academic work focuses on governance, leadership, democratic development in Ghana and Africa, youth empowerment, natural resource management, electoral studies, maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, and peacebuilding across the continent. Prof. Gyampo’s influence extends beyond Ghana, as he has served as a visiting scholar at the University of South Florida’s Department of Government and International Relations and as a visiting professor at the University of Bristol’s Institute of Advanced Studies.

Before his current academic role, Prof. Gyampo spent 14 years at the Governance Unit of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA-Ghana), where he advanced from Research Assistant to Senior Research Fellow. During his tenure, he led numerous socio-economic and governance research projects, providing evidence-based policy recommendations to address some of Ghana’s most pressing challenges.

Prof. Gyampo’s thought leadership has significantly influenced national discourse on governance and policy reforms. Through roundtable discussions, media engagements, and scholarly contributions, he has consistently advocated for transformative governance practices and sustainable development.
