The Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency and former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has issued a strong warning that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will face justice, even if he refuses to return to Ghana or passes away. Mr. Gbande’s remarks come in the wake of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) officially declaring Ofori-Atta a suspect in five high-profile corruption investigations on February 12, 2025.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Monday, February 17, Gbande emphasized that the government would take all necessary measures to ensure Ofori-Atta’s return to Ghana and to recover any public funds allegedly embezzled during his tenure.

“If Ken Ofori-Atta refuses to come, every measure will be deployed to bring him back,” Gbande stated. He added, “If, for any reason, he passes on, his dead body will be prosecuted and jailed, and every stolen penny belonging to the people of Ghana will be retrieved.”

The former Finance Minister’s residence was recently raided by the OSP as part of its investigations, a move that has sparked mixed reactions. While some, including the NDC Majority Leader in Parliament, have criticized the OSP’s approach as heavy-handed and described the raid as regrettable, others have supported the action, viewing it as a necessary step to hold public officials accountable for alleged corruption.

Gbande’s comments reflect the NDC’s firm stance on combating corruption and ensuring accountability, particularly in cases involving high-profile figures.

The developments have intensified the political discourse in Ghana, with many citizens closely watching how the investigations unfold. As the OSP continues its probe, the case has become a focal point in the broader conversation about governance, accountability, and the rule of law in the country.
