The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Mr. Sammi Awuku, led a team of NLA staff to hand over 12 ultra-modern washroom facilities to Aburi Girls Senior High School in the Eastern Region. The commissioning ceremony took place on July 2, 2024, with the support of the Good Causes Foundation Coordinator, Madam Amma Frimpong.

The event began with a mini gathering where Mr. Awuku addressed attendees, highlighting the achievements of the NLA Good Causes Foundation since its inception. He emphasized the four pillars on which the foundation thrives, particularly focusing on education and health. Mr. Awuku noted that the construction of the washroom facilities aligns with the foundation’s commitment to promoting good hygiene. Additionally, he spoke about responsible gaming, advising students to prioritize their studies and avoid engaging in lotto games.

Several key personalities were present at the gathering, including Mrs. Patricia Asare-Korang, Assistant Headmistress for Administration; Mr. Eric Yeboah Appiadu, Parliamentary Candidate for Akuapem South Constituency; Hon. Frank Aidoo, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akuapem South; Mr. Okyere Danso, Assistant Headmaster (Academics); Mrs. Rita Biney, Assistant Headmistress (Domestics); Rev. Mrs. Joycelyn Baffoe-Bonney, Assistant Chaplain of the school; and Mr. David Nkansah Anto, Public Relations Manager for NLA.

The newly commissioned facility comprises two washrooms for teachers (one for males and one for females), ten washrooms for students (one of which is adapted for persons with disabilities), a spacious changing room, a mechanized borehole, a polytank, and two standing pipes.

Mrs. Patricia Asare-Korang, who received the facility on behalf of the school, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the NLA for the significant contribution. She highlighted the positive impact the modern washrooms would have on the school’s hygiene and overall well-being. The MCE for Akuapem South, Hon. Frank Aidoo, also expressed his appreciation and appealed for more such projects from the NLA to benefit other schools and communities.
