The Supreme Court of Ghana has thrown out a brief by Policy Think Tank, Imani Ghana and other CSO’s to file an Amicus Curiae not be a party to the case but to assist the Supreme Court through offering information, expertise or insight that has a bearing on the issues in the case.
The Policy Think Tanks sought to join as a friend of the court to assist the court in its judgement of the case brought before it by the NDC to challenge the authority of the EC to compile a new voters register.
But the Supreme Court unanimously tossed out the IMANI brief, which it said had no place in law.
“The need for an amicus brief is not supported by law, we have therefore dismissed the application for the CSOs on the amicus brief,” the Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah said.
