Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, also known as Kwabena Adu Gyamfi, has been detained by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) as part of an ongoing probe into allegations of possessing multiple identities. The investigation follows claims made by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the North Tongu MP and current Foreign Affairs Minister, who accused Rev. Kusi Boateng of using different names and dates of birth across various official documents.
The controversy first surfaced in 2023 when Ablakwa alleged in a social media exposé that Rev. Kusi Boateng, who serves as Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral, held multiple passports and identification cards under different identities. Ablakwa asserted that this was part of a deliberate scheme to obscure his true identity.
“From unassailable and irreproachable documents in my possession, Rev. Victor Kusi-Boateng, also known as Kwabena Adu Gyamfi, uses multiple passports and identification cards with different names and dates of birth as his special modus operandi,” Ablakwa stated in a Facebook post.
The MP further alleged that JNS Talent Centre Ltd, a company owned by Rev. Kusi Boateng, received GH¢2.6 million for the National Cathedral project under the name Kwabena Adu Gyamfi. Ablakwa claimed that documents in his possession confirmed that Kwabena Adu Gyamfi and Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng were the same person. Despite these allegations, Rev. Kusi Boateng has continued to serve as an Executive Council Member and Director of the National Cathedral Board.
The legal battle between the two escalated when, on July 13, 2024, the Human Rights Court dismissed an application filed by Rev. Kusi Boateng. The application sought to prevent Ablakwa from making further public statements about his involvement in the National Cathedral project. The court’s decision paved the way for continued scrutiny of the allegations.
While the specific charges against Rev. Kusi Boateng have not been officially disclosed, sources indicate that the NIB’s investigation is centered on his alleged use of dual identities. The case has drawn significant public attention, raising questions about transparency and accountability in the management of the National Cathedral project, a flagship initiative of the previous government.
