Kennedy, Kojo Poku Storm NPP Office Over Delegates Conference Issues

The presidential aspirants of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) yesterday stormed the headquarters of the party as part of the process of addressing the challenges that ensued especially at North East Region, during the just ended Special Delegates Conference to elect five aspirants to contest the party’s presidential primaries in November.

Apart from the Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Kojo Poku, all the aspirants were duly represented at the party’s headquarters to share their views and discuss matters relating to last Saturday’s election across all the 16 regions.

Speaking in an interview with journalists after a five-hour meeting, the NPP Chairman, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, stated that the party was actively working around the clock to arrive at a solution on how to address the tie between Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai Nimoh, who polled 9 votes each, to enable them get the flagbearer finalists for the November 4 presidential primaries.

He, however, said that though the two had signaled their readiness to proceed to a run-off election if necessary, the party will continue to ensure finality is reached.

He added that an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting is set to take place today to address some of the issues that arose during its Special Delegates Conference as well as to discuss other matters for smooth flagbearer elections in November.

He hinted that the discussions at the meeting centered on reported infractions and incidents that occurred at the various regional centres where the elections were held.

Kojo Poku, in an interview with journalists after the meeting, said he would communicate with his supporters regarding his stance on the rest of the aspirants before the November 4 primaries, though he was not selected as part of the five candidates.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who was sandwiched by dozens of cameras, refused to comment on events that transpired at the meeting.

A member and spokesperson of the Presidential Election Committee (PEC), Alexander Afenyo Markin, described the meeting as very fruitful, adding that the committee would also meet some of the aspirants on Thursday to finalise the election processes.
