The honorable MP for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo is reportedly holding her party to ransom, following her party’s decision to strip her of her position as deputy majority leader.

The lawmaker, this portal understands is also harboring acrimony towards her Party and the President for not standing by her following her decision to sack the head of the National School Feeding Programme.

It will be recalled that Adwoa Safo was the deputy majority of the NPP in the last parliament until the Party decided to give her position to her colleague, Alexander Afenyo Markin.

In a report filed by Ghanaweb, the website claims that information from a credible source has alleged that the MP is using her ill will towards the Party to ‘grab them by their balls’ with regards to the passage of the electronic transactions levy.

E-Levy and It’s Associated Controversy

The e-levy, the government believes, will be the game changer in the country’s massive infrastructure and development deficit. With government estimating to garner in excess of some 6 billion Cedis annually from the levy, health, education, road and agriculture infrastructure are to see a massive improvement, government claims, should the controversial levy be eventually passed.

However, the minority caucus on the other hand, believe the levy is another avenue for the Akufo-Addo led government to finance its profligacy and opulence and not necessary to fill the development gap. This view of the minority appears to be shared by many civil society organizations and the majority of the citizenry who are not really impressed with government’s handling of the economy at this particular time.

Debate on the levy has seen violence erupt on the floor of parliament as both sides of the house fail to find common ground on the matter.
