The Central Regional Secretariat of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed Nurein Shiabu Migyimah, the Assin Central Parliamentary Candidate, following allegations of misconduct.
Key Details
Allegations: Migyimah allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with the wife of the Constituency Secretary, resulting in a pregnancy. He reportedly relocated her to Kasoa, where he rented accommodation for her.
Complaint and Investigation: The NDC’s Central Regional Functional Executive Committee (R-FEC) acted on complaints filed against Migyimah. After exhaustive investigations and deliberations, the R-FEC decided to withdraw his candidature with immediate effect.
Official Statement
A statement signed by Gabriel Nii Kommey Adams, the Regional Secretary of the NDC, indicated that the decision followed a preliminary investigation into reports of “immoral acts and anti-Party conduct” by Migyimah.
“The Regional Functional Executive Committee, after conducting its preliminary investigation and examining the matter minutely and exhaustively, further consulted key stakeholders in the region and the leadership of the Party at the National level and resolved that Nurein Shaibu Migyimah be withdrawn as the 2024 Assin Central Parliamentary Candidate of the NDC with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Consequences
Suspension: Migyimah has been suspended from the party for six months and referred to the Regional Disciplinary Committee for adjudication. His party membership is also suspended until the final determination of his case.
Election Impact: It remains unclear how the NDC will select a new candidate for the 2024 general election to contest the Assin Central Parliamentary seat, currently held by NPP MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
This development adds to the political intrigue and challenges facing the NDC as they prepare for the upcoming elections.
