A former Fomena Constituency Chairman for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Akwasi Nti Asamoah, has blamed the Ashanti Region Chairman of the party, Benard Antwi Bosiako, for the growing tension in Fomena’s ongoing polling station elections.

Speaking on Akoma FM’s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma Tuesday, April 26, the ex-Fomena chairman laid the cause of all the tensions and brouhaha in Fomena NPP at the doorstep of the regional chairman.

He explained in Asante twi that “this is a typical leadership failure because you can’t blame anyone but the party leaders in the region for sitting unconcern for such developments to unfold to this extent”.

Mr Akwasi Nti, when asked by host of the show Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin why he drags the party’s regional chairman into this, explained that “there is no way Chairman Wontumi has no hands in what is going on, total popular acclamation without giving level playground for all aspirants”.

The former Fomena NPP chairman’s claims follow a heavily policed polling station election after over 500 polling station officers for the constituency were elected though some members of the party who were aggrieved described the process as unconstitutional, Monday, April 25.

The aggrieved members believe the move is in line to ensure the incumbent Member of Parliament who apparently parted ways with party and went solo to have his way through.

On this premise, Mr Akwasi Nti believes the Ashanti Region chairman Benard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is the engineer behind all these political ‘mafia’.

He explained that “Wontumi wants to fix all his loyalists in the polling station position so he can have his way when the regional elections come off but we are sounding a word of caution that the party structures must be followed because independent candidate cannot lead the party unless the person denounces his independent candidature and realign with the party according to the party constitution,” he added.
