Arrest Akua Afriyie, Is the NPP exempted from Covid-19 safety protocols? – Ade Coker Fumes

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ade Coker has criticised New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for failing to crack the whip on party members who flout the Covid-19 safety protocols.

According to him, these laws seem to only apply to NDC members to stop them from touring registration centres amidst the voters registration exercise.

This comes after Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma North was captured on video without facemask talking to some people at a registration centre to vote for President Akufo Addo in December.

According to Mr. Ade Coker, what the MP did was a “product of a desperate move to remain relevant and also remind the powers that be in the NPP that she has not jumped ship after losing the Parliamentary primaries, it is an act that flies in the face of the advocacy against the spread of the coronavirus and electoral regulations, and as such the EC must not remain tight-lipped on it.”

He added, “what she did was unacceptable. Is the NPP exempted from the Covid-19 safety protocol by the EC and government? This is totally unfair. She must be arrested.”
