Former president John Dramani Mahama has noted that President Akufo-Addo should have vacated his Presidential seat by now after he failed to clamp down on the galamsey menace.
According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, Akufo-Addo when he was sworn in pledged to end galamsey and even went as far as vowing that he’ll put his presidency on the line to stop it.
However, John Mahama bemoaned how members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have ended up taking over galamsey while ordinary Ghanaians are persecuted. He noted that DCEs, party executives have now actively taken over galamsey at the expense of the ordinary Ghanaian.
He called on the President to resign just as he had vowed to.
“Akufo-Addo has failed when it comes to the fight against the [galamsey] menace and so if he has put his tenure on the line then he probably shouldn’t be running for the next presidency, he should be resigning now,” Mahama said in an interview on Asempa FM.
