Without E-Levy, Government Cannot Pay Workers – PNC General Secretary

Mrs Janet Nabla, General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has reiterated that if the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy (E levy) is not passed, the government will be unable to pay public officials’ salaries.

She called the tax a “necessary evil,” adding that if it isn’t adopted, the country will face a slew of problems.

“The E levy is a necessary evil,” she added. “If the E tax is not implemented, a lot of troubles would arise in the country, and if there are issues, every human being in Ghana will be affected.”

Mrs Nabla, speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, emphasized the importance of the E-Levy, which, if approved, will aid in the creation of permanent young employment in Ghana.

“The e-levy is in Ghanaians’ best interests because it will help to facilitate long-term youth employment.”

“If this E-levy passes, it will benefit young entrepreneurs; it is something along these lines that we (PNC) desire because it is a fantastic idea.”

According to her, the country is “bankrupt,” and the approval of E-Levy is one of the few options for reviving the economy.

“It is true that Ghana is bankrupt, and we would be unable to pay workers and manage the country without the enactment of a revenue-generating tax (E-Levy),” he stated.

Mrs Nabla, on the other hand, bemoaned the levy’s percentage and urged the government to cut it to 1% in order to alleviate Ghanaians’ hardships.
