The music community and residents of Sowutuom are reeling after the tragic death of Nana Yaw, popularly known by his stage name Wyllbee (@wyllbeemusic). The upcoming musician was brutally lynched at Abuakwa-Tanoso in the Ashanti Region under heartbreaking circumstances.
Wyllbee, who had recently traveled from Accra to Kumasi, was visiting his girlfriend for a few days. Unbeknownst to him, his girlfriend was married to a man abroad and was living with her in-laws. The ill-fated incident occurred around 1 am on Friday, July 5, 2024, when Wyllbee woke up to urinate outside.
According to reports, Wyllbee was confronted by occupants of the compound house, who suspected him of being a thief. Despite explaining that he was there to visit his girlfriend, the situation escalated dramatically when the girl, in a desperate bid to protect her marriage, denied knowing him. This false denial led the occupants to alert their neighbors, believing they had apprehended a thief.
The situation quickly spiraled out of control as the neighbors joined in the confrontation, resulting in Wyllbee being severely beaten. The musician’s family, unaware of his trip to Kumasi, were informed of his dire condition early in the morning. Wyllbee was rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further medical assistance. Tragically, despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage and grief among Wyllbee’s fans, friends, and family. His sudden and violent death has raised urgent questions about the dangers of mob justice and the devastating consequences of false accusations. The local authorities have initiated an investigation to bring those responsible for the lynching to justice and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
Wyllbee was known for his passion for music and had been building a promising career in the industry. His untimely death is not only a loss to his loved ones but also to the Ghanaian music scene, which has lost a budding talent.
