Former President John Dramani Mahama has noted that President Akufo-Addo will be seeking to use the alleged ‘Western Togolanders’ secessionists to cause mayhem during the December 2020 polls.
According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, rumours picked up by his campaign team suggests that the President’s lack of seriousness in dealing with the separatists is a deliberate plan to use them to disrupt electoral processes on December 7.
Speaking on Woezor TV he said, “the impunity at which these people are doing these things if the government was serious, I don’t think it will continue. So, the rumour around is that this is a dress rehearsal, they will do a few more of these attacks and the real deal is on election day.
“On election day, they will bring these Western Togolanders that the government controls and disrupt things in the Volta Region and blame it on secessionist, that is the rumour going around. This is the first time the President is even talking about this issue. As the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, you need to protect your people and we are not even seeing any seriousness.”
Meanwhile President Akufo-Addo has stated that the issue will be deal with by the security forces, stressing he’s not panicked by the secessionist activities.
