Review Free SHS – Ricketts-Hagan To Government

Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan, a former Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, has stated that he expects Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to launch a review of the implementation of the free senior high school program.

Mr Ofori-Atta made the remark after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stated that the free Senior High School program will not be canceled or reviewed.

“Let me state unequivocally that President Akufo-Addo has no intention of reversing any of the important measures, such as the free SHS. We believe that education is the most effective enabler of long-term growth and transformation.

On Thursday, March 24, he remarked, “We will do more to improve it so that it can better serve our children.”

However, Mr Ricketts-Hagan, who is also a former Deputy Finance Minister, said on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday March 26 that the administration needed to examine the execution in order to identify areas where they could improve.

“He stated that free education is non-negotiable; nonetheless, time will tell.” There is no such thing as a non-negotiable item. You have to assess it as you go along to determine if what you’re doing is actually the proper thing.

“My concern is not whether or not we should have free SHS; my issue has been the delivery of free education from the beginning,” he told host Dzifa Bampoh.
