According to an EIU study, ex-President John Dramani Mahama’s candidacy will not damage the fortunes of the NDC in the 2024 elections, according to Ghana’s former Ambassador to India, Sam Pee Yalley.

The EIU (Economic Intelligence Unit) projection, according to Sam Pee Yalley, fails to account for the genuine circumstances that could lead to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) losing the 2019 general elections.

According to him, the actions and inaction of the Election Commission (EC) in favor of the government, as well as the deployment of the military to oppress people, are the only things that can lead to the NDC losing the 2024 elections.

“On any good day when all these variables I’m talking about are eased for a free and fair election,” the former ambassador continued, “Ghanaians will vote for John Mahama because they have come to understand that all the smears and fabrications heaped on him are not true.”

According to the EIU’s five-year prognosis for Ghana, announced on April 13, 2022, the opposition party, the NDC, has a better chance of winning the next general elections.

The EIU did note, however, that the NDC’s prospects should be boosted by a flagbearer other than former President John Dramani Mahama.

The survey also stated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-government Addo’s is facing various issues, including unemployment, an economic slump, and corruption, among others, all of which will fuel citizens’ anti-government views.

“Our baseline forecast is that ongoing public dissatisfaction with the slow pace of improvements in governance—such as infrastructure development, job creation, and corruption—will trigger anti-incumbency factors and push the electorate to seek a change,” according to the EIU report.
