Presidential candidate of the Coalition of Independent Political Aspirants (CIPA), Mr. Kofi Koranteng, does not support the idea of regulating Okada Business insisting it’s a risky venture.
According to him, may youth are negaged in Okada because there are no jobs. To him, it would be better to create more industries that are sustainable and safer for the youth to find work to do.
This comes after former president John Dramani Mahama pledged to legalise and regulate Okada activities if elected as president again.
Addressing people during his tour of Kpando in the Volta Region, he stated that “our law says okada is illegal, but it is a reality it has come to stay and you can’t stop it. So, I say when we come into office, we legalise it but we will regulate it.”
However, Mr Lofi Koranteng does not buy the idea stating, “the Okada business is risky and a lot of young people engaging it. We need to position our youth and create better opportunities for them. We need to set up more industries to create jobs. We need to reposition ourselves in a way to create safer and sustainable jobs for the youth.”
