NPP Rejects Bawumia Fun Club Cheque

In an unexpected development, the leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the national level has declined to accept a check offered by an organization known as the Bawumia Fun Club.

On Friday, the Bawumia Fun Club made an effort to obtain presidential nomination forms for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by submitting a GHC 50,000 check. However, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) declined to provide the forms since the club did not have authorization from the vice president’s campaign team.

The Bawumia Fun Club asserts that in order to maintain the New Patriotic Party’s hold on power in the upcoming 2024 elections, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is deserving of being nominated as the party’s presidential candidate. This objective, often referred to as ‘Breaking the 8,’ aims to secure another term for the NPP.

As a requirement set by the party, the Bawumia Fun Club was asked to present an authorization note, which they were unable to provide. Consequently, they were unable to collect the nomination forms on behalf of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The group then sought endorsement from the vice president’s office at Jubilee House. However, they were informed that efforts were being made to centralize the support groups intending to acquire the nomination forms for the vice president’s presidential campaign. The aim was to consolidate these groups and issue a single check to cover the cost of the forms.

The decision of the NPP National Executive to reject the cheque has sparked curiosity among political analysts, who are now questioning the credibility of support groups within the party. This incident has also brought attention to the ongoing discussions surrounding the succession of President Nana Akufo-Addo, as he nears the end of his second and final term in office.
