Nana Akufo- Addo, the current president and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party never ceases to remind us of the relentless efforts he and his government are putting in place to fight the covid19 pandemic.
As part of these preventive measures which all citizens are to adhere to is social distancing, regular hand washing, use of sanitizers and the recent being passing the legislation that, citizens who are caught not wearing nose mask could be charged with a huge fine and a victims inability to pay could earn them a 10-year jail term in prison.
Though this was controverted by some lawmakers, it still stands as anyone caught not adhering to this measure is arrested immediately.
Watching and following the NPP primaries, one would wonder if indeed we are serious in combating this deadly virus. It is absurdly visible how there isn’t any form of social distancing, you could see delegates and people present not bothered about wearing mask ad making unnecessary contacts.
Primaries are part of the ardent measures put in place to prepare for the General Elections and if the NPP wants citizens to take them seriously, it was equally important they exhibited leadership by example by arresting and jailing any NPP member or delegate who breaks this rule of not wearing nose masks.
We hope the president and those responsible are watching and the necessary steps would be taken to stop the increase of the already overwhelming figures being dished out to citizens like toffees at childrens’ birthday parties.
