The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has summoned all presidential hopefuls to a crucial meeting with the National Council of Elders on July 3, 2025, as part of efforts to foster unity and discuss key party matters ahead of the upcoming primaries.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, following a National Steering Committee meeting held on Tuesday, June 24. According to the statement, the gathering will provide a platform for aspirants, the Steering Committee, and the Council of Elders to deliberate on issues critical to the party’s progress.
Disciplinary Action Against Abronye
In the same statement, the party referred Kwame Baffoe (Abronye), the Bono Regional Chairman, to the National Disciplinary Committee for violating directives from the National Council. The leadership cautioned him against making inflammatory public remarks that could undermine party cohesion.
Ban on Unauthorized Caucus Meetings
Additionally, the Steering Committee directed an immediate halt to all unauthorized meetings between presidential aspirants and caucuses or associations of current and former party executives and government appointees. The party emphasized that such gatherings breach internal regulations and threaten unity.
Mr. Frimpong reiterated the NPP’s commitment to maintaining discipline and urged members to uphold the party’s constitution by supporting collective decisions and avoiding actions that could create divisions.
This move underscores the NPP’s efforts to streamline its internal processes and ensure a smooth transition as it prepares for the 2024 general elections.
