Leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are in an emergency meeting with Members of Parliament over Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s resignation from Parliament’s Appointment Committee.
Chairman of the NDC, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and other top executives of the party are attending the emergency meeting.
Ablakwa’s resignation comes after the consensus approval of finance minister Ken Ofori Atta which has drawn much criticism from the rank and file of the NDC.
In a letter dated March 30, addressed to the Speaker, Alban Kingsford Bagbin, Okudzeto explained that this was “after days of careful reflection and thoughtful considerations.
Mr Ablakwa indicated to the Speaker that his resignation takes immediate effect, meaning he will not be on the committee for the approval of President Akufo-Addo’s deputy minister nominees.
