Pursuant to the order of the Cape Coast High Court, which annulled the 2020 Assin Central Parliamentary election, a massive showdown is all but set as we await the imminent by-election.

The Cape Coast High Court has annulled the results of the 2020 parliamentary elections in the Assin North constituency.

The Court, presided over by Justice Kwasi Boakye, ordered for fresh elections to be conducted in the constituency.

Handing his judgement on Wednesday, the judge said the MP, Joe Gyaakye Quayson violated constitutional provisions and other statutory provisions that guide Ghana’s elections.

But what next?

The court order is unclear as to whether or not Mr. Gyaakye Quayson can contest the by-election, now that his canadian citizenship has been renounced.

It is also pretty much unclear if the NPP can snatch the seat from the NDC.

What is clear is that this by-election will be heavily contested and that the stakes are even higher considering the fact that the NDC since 1992, have won that seat 3 times, while the NPP have won it 4 times.
