I Visited Amidu Because He Was Sick, I Didn’t Intend To Change His Views On Agyapa – Ken Ofori-Atta

Finance Minister designate, Ken Ofori-Atta has told the Appointments Committee of Parliament that he never intended to sway the former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu on his stance on the Agyapa deal.

It will be recalled that Mr Martin Amidu, in his lengthy statement after his resignation, claimed that the Finance Minister visited his house after he had expressed his adverse professional opinion on the infamous Agyapa deal.

This statement by Mr Amidu, when juxtaposed with the unceremonious circumstances under which he resigned, caused many to believe he left office after refusing to be compromised.

However, responding to Questions before the Appointments Committee, Mr Ofori-Atta insisted that his visit to Mr Amidu was purely premised on friendship and nothing else.

“Mr Chairman as I have mentioned before I have known the Special Prosecutor for a while. It wasn’t the first time that I was going to his home. Yes, I did visit him. I had gone to the office on a Friday in which they indicated that to me that he was not feeling well and was not at work”.

“So I believe on a Saturday morning the next day I did go to visit him and I saw him. He was not well and that was important for that,” the Finance Minister-designate said. “I didn’t feel the issues at play stopped me from visiting him”.
