The Ghana Union Movement (GUM) has issued a rallying call to all Ghanaians to involve themselves in the registration of the new voters’ card in a show of commitment to national duty.

According to the movement, the registration exercise is a national responsibilty that will deepen the country’s democracy and offer citizens the chance to vote for an alternate party.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency, a Political Scientist for GUM, Rvered L.K.B Trotsky, said the time has come for Ghana to abandon the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC) politics and give way for a new party.

He accused the NPP, NDC of corruption under their administrations and abandonment of state enterprises, particularly, those started under the country’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah.

“We are fed up with NDC and NPP deceptions and their failure to fight corruption in the country during their respective terms of office. Both have failed to arrest the growing unemployment and grow the economy,” he added. “We are pleading all patriotic Ghanaians, the intelligentsia and GUM members and supporters to rise up in your constituencies, villages, towns and cities to register for your voter identification cards,” he said.

Rev Trotsky added, “make it a point to register with the Electoral Commission and acquire your voters ID card for the Election Day, December 7…..let’s assist the masses for mass voter ID card registration on the registration day.”
